John and Liz Johnston live in Upington on the Orange River. Upington is a town of about 75,000 people. It is often called
"The Gateway to the Green Kalahari."
The Orange River is the lifeline through the dry Kalahari desert. The river provides water for the people, animals, grapes and raisins and other crops necessary to support life.
